We knew that Sony was promising upgrades to Ice Cream Sandwich for their Xperia line of phones but we did not know that they were this close to being done. An official update to ICS has been leaked over on XDA for the Xperia Arc and has already been gone through, adding kernels and fixes for the ROM that was partially unfinished. It is Android 4.0.3 which is the latest version of ICS and it doesn’t get much more on the edge than this.

The main hurdle with the ROM is that GSM crashes when you try and use it. That and random reboots and glitches should keep most users off of this build but XDA user DooMLoRD is working hard at getting everything in order for Arc users so they can enjoy the new ROM in all of it’s goodness. Flashing instructions and kernel instructions are easily accessible at the XDA thread below, Sony was serious about their upgrades weren’t they?
