CES 2012 is here and Sony was looking to make quite the splash by announcing a few phones for the States that should push the Xperia brand further than where they have come before. First up is the Sony, Ericsson no more, Xperia S. This is the Nozomi that we saw leading up to this week in the flesh; 1280 x 720 4.3″ screen packing a 1.5GHz dual-core processor underneath. A 12MP camera in the rear, that will be able to capture 3D images, and 1.3MP up front sandwich this machine, but unfortunately the device will ship with Android 2.3 Gingerbread. No word yet on if Sony will be upgrading that soon after launch to Ice Cream Sandwich, but we sure hope so.

Next up is the Sony Xperia ion that we also knew was coming thanks to a found trademark filing. This is the phone that will be coming to AT&T later in the year and sporting it’s new LTE radios underneath. A 4.6″ HD Reality display will be fronting this phone and covering a 1.5GHz dual-core processor underneath. 16GB storage and a 12MP shooter on the rear make this phone Sony’s flagship in the States and it even comes Playstation certified like the Xperia Play so that will add some fun into the equation as well. We wonder if this phone will also see a bump to ICS early in it’s life since it is also slated to launch with Gingerbread.
