Sprint Announces They Are Finally Ready to Release Ice Cream Sandwich to the Nexus S 4G

What seems to have been the longest wait of all time, Sprint has finally given the green light to Ice Cream Sandwich for their Samsung Nexus S 4G. Interestingly enough, it is only Android 4.0 and not one of the latest versions available. This may frustrate some users, but now that ICS has made its way, we have a feeling updates from here on out should be a bit more timely.

Nexus S Software Update – IMM76D (Android 4.0 - Ice Cream Sandwich)

Enhancements/Fixes:

Upgrades device operating system to Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich).
Customizable favorites tray visible on all 5 home screens just above the hard keys
Contacts application replaced with a People application that provides improved integration with Gmail, Email, Google+ and other apps
Multitasking allows users easy access to switch between recently used applications by tapping and holding the Home key
Create folders on the home screen by dragging and dropping one app onto another to create a folder
New lock screen actions allow users to jump into the camera or pull down notifications to check messages, without unlocking the device
Swiping from left to right can dismiss individual notifications, close apps from the recent apps list, and close browser tabs
Data usage provide controls for monitoring and managing network data usage
Camera enhancements include capturing panoramic photos, continuous focus, zero shutter lag exposure, stabilized image zoom and decreased shot-to-shot speed
Android Beam allows two NRC-enabled devices to exchange favorite apps, contacts, music, videos and more

All current versions of Ice Cream Sandwich are 4.0.x, so saying 4.0 doesn’t necessarily say that it is 4.0.0

Still a hugely underrated device, mainly because it was a single core in the facce of the dual-core assault. I admit I was one to deride it for all that.

WTF are you smoking Sprint’s own page lists the build IMM76D which is 4.0.4 how can you say in the article it is only 4.0? Pretty sure there was never a true 4.0 released considering the Galaxy Nexus Launched with 4.0.1. I respect the Droid Life main page but honestly the news on here needs to be better reported this entire article is an insult. Your source link even says IMM76D. Sprint is only saying 4.0 because the masses don’t care about 4.0.3 or 4.0.4 they just care that it is ICS. Most retail sales reps are even instructed to call it 4.0 and not elaborate on the minor rev. So unless there is a 4.1 which would actually constitute a major change in the build similar to Froyo to Gingerbread then 4.0 is a sufficient identifier for the general consumer. Gingerbread on most phones is still called 2.3 most carriers rarely reveal if it is 2.3.4 or 2.3.5 but it is all still 2.3. If you need someone to do editing I will gladly volunteer but over all you hurt the entire site even the main DL when you put up an article like this. Thought you were better than this Tim? I know this site was hyped when it launched and became a red-headed-stepchild and that is really kind of sad because there are plenty of people that find droid life because of the other general news it reports on apps and things that find their way here only to be let down. Not going to stop reading and maybe that was all a little harsh but little things like this have been getting to me the past few days surrounding this release.
